Tabizmo

Privacy policy

Last updated:

In short

  • The Tabizmo extension keeps everything on your computer, in your browser's own storage.
  • It sends nothing anywhere: no account, no server, no analytics, no telemetry. The extension makes no network requests.
  • We, the makers of Tabizmo, never receive your tabs, bookmarks or settings.
  • Removing the extension deletes what it stored. Files you export are yours.

Who we are

This policy covers the Tabizmo browser extension and this website. Tabizmo is made by the company below, which is responsible for this policy (the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the GDPR).

What the extension works with

Tabizmo is a backup and manager for tab groups and bookmarks. To do that, it works with the following data, on your computer:

  • Tabs: the titles and addresses (URLs) of your open tabs and the tab group each one belongs to. The extension reads them to record your tab groups and to sort tabs by your rules. It does not read the content of the pages, and it never works in private windows.
  • Tab groups: their names, colours, tabs and the order of the tabs; the earlier version of a group when a change removed tabs from it (up to 10 per group by default); and the groups you deleted, kept in the trash for 30 days.
  • Rules and settings: the sorting rules you make and your choices.
  • Bookmarks, only if you allow access: their titles, addresses and folders, to back them up, export them to a file and restore them into a new folder. Restoring never deletes existing bookmarks.
  • Lock data, only if you switch the lock on: for a PIN, a salted and deliberately slow hash of it, never the PIN itself; for a passkey, a record that identifies it. The private part of a passkey stays in your computer, phone or security key, and your fingerprint or face is checked by your operating system. Neither reaches the extension.

The extension does not read or store the content of web pages, what you type into them, cookies, website icons or the browser's history list.

Where it is stored

All of it is stored in your browser's own storage for extensions, inside your browser profile, on your computer. A working list of the open tabs is kept in the browser's session memory and is cleared when the browser closes. The extension copies nothing anywhere else.

Removing the extension makes the browser delete everything the extension stored. This is why the extension asks you to export a backup file.

What leaves your computer

Nothing, as far as the extension is concerned. Tabizmo has no account and no server, and it has no analytics, telemetry or error reporting. The extension makes no network requests: its content security policy forbids loading anything from the internet, and it contains all of its code.

We, the makers of Tabizmo, never receive your tabs, bookmarks, settings or any other data from the extension. We cannot read, sell or share what we never receive.

Two kinds of traffic belong to your browser, not to the extension. When you open or restore a group, the browser loads those pages as if you had opened them yourself. If your browser's own sync is switched on, the browser may sync the tab groups and bookmarks the extension restores, under the browser's own terms.

Installing and updating the extension through a browser's add-on store is handled by that store, under its own terms and privacy policy.

Permissions and why

When you install Tabizmo, the browser asks you for these permissions:

  • Tabs: to see the titles and addresses of open tabs, so that groups can be recorded and tabs sorted. The browser describes this permission as access to your browsing history, because tab addresses are part of it.
  • Tab groups: to read, create and change tab groups.
  • Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your library on your computer, without the usual size limit for extensions.
  • Alarms: to wake up from time to time, check that no change was missed and run scheduled exports.
  • Offscreen document: to prepare the file of a scheduled export in the background.

Two permissions are optional. The extension asks for them only when you first use the feature that needs them, and works without them:

  • Bookmarks: when you first open bookmark backup.
  • Downloads: when you switch on scheduled export, to save the file in your downloads folder. An export you start yourself needs no permission.

You can withdraw an optional permission at any time in your browser's extension settings. The extension asks for no access to websites and adds nothing to the pages you visit: it cannot read or change them.

The lock is not encryption

You can put a passkey or a PIN in front of the manager. The lock stops other people at your computer from viewing or changing what you saved. It does not encrypt anything: your library is stored unencrypted in your browser profile, and someone with technical skills and access to your computer can read it, just as they can read the browser's own bookmarks. Your tab groups are still recorded while the extension is locked.

Exported files are not encrypted either. Keep them where you keep other private files.

Your control and deletion

  • Delete a group in the manager: it goes to the trash, which is emptied after 30 days, or you delete it permanently from the trash at once, together with its earlier versions.
  • Remove the extension: the browser deletes everything the extension stored.
  • Files you exported are yours. They stay where you saved them until you delete them, and we have no copy.
  • Withdraw the bookmarks or downloads permission in your browser's extension settings.

Because we never receive data from the extension, there is nothing about it that we could show you, correct or delete. For the personal data described under This website and Writing to us, you have the rights the GDPR gives you: access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability. Write to the address above to use them. You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.

This website

This website sets no cookies, runs no scripts, uses no analytics and loads nothing from other websites.

To deliver the pages and protect them against attacks, the company that hosts the website (TO CONFIRM) processes the technical data that every request to a website carries: your IP address, the address you asked for, the time and your browser's identification. We do not use this data to identify you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Writing to us

If you write to us, we use your message and your e-mail address only to answer you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and delete them once the matter is closed, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

Store data policy

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In practice: the extension uses the data of your tabs, tab groups and bookmarks only to provide the features described here. It transfers that data to no one, does not use it for advertising or to judge creditworthiness, and no person reads it. The policy is published as the Chrome Web Store program policies.

Changes to this policy

If the extension starts to handle data differently, this policy is updated before that version is published, and the date at the top changes. A later feature that sends data off your computer, such as an optional account, will be off until you switch it on, and will be described here before it is released.
